Groups will run for 6 weeks each, 90 minutes per session. Groups will meet in or near Fairfax at a location TBD.
PARENTS OF CHILDREN WITH ADHD GROUP
Do you have an elementary-aged child with ADHD? We are offering a group for parents of kids with ADHD, moderated by the Laurens, to provide emotional support, troubleshoot behaviors, and discuss strategies that may or may not have been successful for your child at home and at school. Parents will be able to speak freely and ask questions of each other and of the Laurens, both from a mental health perspective and an educational planning/intervention perspective. During the first 15 minutes of each session, the Laurens will present on a different topic related to ADHD to provide you with tips and tools that can be implemented immediately. The remainder of each session will be driven by the participants' needs and will include sharing of personal experiences and the opportunity to ask specific questions of the group and the Laurens. This group will meet for 75 minutes once per week for six consecutive weeks.
NAVIGATING RETURN TO SCHOOL GROUP
Did your child spend much of the last year as a virtual learner? Is your child just starting elementary school? Now more than ever, parents and children are faced with the challenge of navigating a myriad of social, emotional and academic situations that come with starting a new school year. This group will focus on giving parents tips on how to make the transition back to school less stressful for the whole family. Topics discussed will be based on the needs of the group and could include how to help and guide your child to make new friends, providing tools to bolster your child’s attention and motivation once back in the school building, increasing stamina for a busier life including in person school and extracurriculars, and when and how to reach out to your child’s teacher or school for information and support. During the first 15 minutes of each session, the Laurens will present on a different topic related to return to school and transitions to provide you with tips and tools that can be implemented immediately. The remainder of each session will be driven by the participants' needs and will include sharing of personal experiences and the opportunity to ask specific questions of the group and the Laurens. This group will meet for 75 minutes once per week for six consecutive weeks.
