About Us
How did Lauren and Lauren become “The Laurens”? As first time moms, navigating the challenges of parenthood and in need of a proverbial village, we joined a local community Mommy and Me group. In between chasing our toddlers and refereeing disputes over who had the purple ball first, we became fast friends. Over the years that followed, we shared in each other’s celebrations and challenges of motherhood -- lending an ear, giving advice, and providing support on countless occasions. Friends, neighbors, and other parents observed the village we had built and began reaching out to ask for guidance and advice on parenting from the lenses of our respective fields - childhood mental health and early education. We were quickly coined “The Laurens” by various people in the community and as embarrassing as that was, we realized we were a good duo.
Through a combination of individual sessions with the Laurens, support groups, and workshops, Partners in Parenthood strives to help parents in the community by providing various avenues of service in order to best meet the needs of a child and the family. Given our experiences as a school psychologist and an elementary school teacher, we are partnering to offer our expertise in the areas of mental health and early childhood education to provide thorough consultation with parents. At school, teachers and support staff provide the scaffolding our kids need to succeed socially, behaviorally, and academically; at home, parents often want to consistently reinforce the interventions that schools have in place but don’t have the knowledge of how to do so. Partners in Parenthood hopes to unveil the shroud of mystery surrounding what goes on in school and how teachers are working their magic. We each have years of experience working with children, but our different lenses combine to create a unique perspective. We look forward to partnering with each other and with you--the parent--to address the emotional, behavioral, and academic needs of your child.
